Scotch is made in Scotland, traditionally double-distilled, often with a smokier character (though blends like J&B are lighter). Irish whiskey (Jameson) is triple-distilled, smoother, lighter. Tennessee whiskey (Jack Daniel's) is similar to American bourbon but goes through an extra charcoal-mellowing step. For mixing they're largely interchangeable; for sipping the differences matter more.
Not necessarily — different categories. Blended whisky is designed to be consistent, smooth, and mixable; single malt is built for sipping and showcases the distillery character. Blended Scotches like J&B are excellent for what they're designed for; single malts are excellent for what they're designed for.
Upright (unlike wine), in a cool dark place, with the cap on tight. Whisky doesn't age in the bottle once opened, but it does slowly evaporate and oxidise over months. A well-stored open bottle is fine to drink for a year or more.
