Dark rum (Red Heart) has been aged in oak casks and/or coloured with caramel, giving it a fuller body, sweeter flavour, and more "rum" character. Light rum (some Captain Morgan expressions) is filtered and aged less, giving a cleaner, more neutral profile suited to cocktails where the rum should support rather than dominate.

Globally, Captain Morgan is most famous for its Original Spiced expression — rum infused with vanilla, cinnamon, and other notes. The version commonly stocked in this market may or may not be the spiced variant — check the label to confirm.
